About John Izzo

John is a fitness professional in the Greater Hartford, CT area working primarily with general population clients seeking fat loss goals, improved sports performance and better functionality.  His clients range from avid golfers, homemakers, CEO's, athletes, teens, and fitness enthusiasts. His resume consists of numerous positions both as a personal trainer and fitness director for commercial fitness facilities, corporate fitness, non-profit facilities, and the private sector. Over the last 10 years, John has amassed hundreds of client hours and experience working with novice trainers and guiding them through the interview process; finding knowledgeable resources; job placement; and exercise programming.

John received his Bachelor's degree in Public Health Promotion from Southern Connecticut State University (SCSU) in 2000. An avid weight-lifter and athlete, John began weightlifting as a hobby and later used his collegiate education to learn another spectrum of health that included the correlation of optimal health and nutrition, community health, disease and injury prevention. Along with his education, John has obtained fitness certifications from the following organizations:

  • Personal Trainer - National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM)
  • Performance Enhancement Specialist - National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM)
  • Personal Trainer - American Council on Exercise (ACE)
  • Personal Trainer - National Exercise & Sports Trainer Association (NESTA)

Since 2008, John has collaborated on several projects with the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM). Most notably, John  has co-authored the latest edition of the "Foundations of Personal Training" course. Along with other faculty members of NASM, this introductory course was developed to help individuals that are interested in entering the personal training field with NASM credentials.


Since 2002, John has educated and instructed close to 150 fitness professionals through his lectures and practical courses held through local
 community colleges.
 Since that time, John has served as a senior faculty instructor for a leading fitness education organization;  and continues to provide energetic and passionate lectures on exercise physiology & anatomy, program design, and ethics.
